Chłopy

On the 16th meridian

Throughout the year, twelve fishing boats sail out of the harbour in Chłopy, and what's more, fish are sold straight from the boat afterwards. And if you really cannot wait, you can set out with the fishermen and see how difficult their profession is.

Two hundred residents are claimed to live in the only village on the Polish coast where the traditional fishing village layout has survived to this day. The village was recognised as a resort 170 years ago despite its specialisation in fishing.

This settlement is separated from Mielno and Sarbinowo by coastal forests. While it offers a variety of catering and accommodation options, its great advantage is a clean beach banked with towering sand dunes. There is also an outdoor gym that can be found at ul. Morska.

Tourists are encouraged to walk the historical path along ul. Kapitańska where they go past the information boards documenting the rich history of the village dating back to the 13th century.

Nineteenth-century houses with distinctive white plastered walls crossed with dark beams (timber frame construction) are the architectural embellishment of the settlement. The village has been listed in the Register of Historical Monuments due to its urban layout.

But Chłopy is not just an open-air museum. The Association of Development and Promotion of Coastal Settlement Chłopy - '16th Meridian' organises numerous entertaining events for tourists such as Kite Day, Sea Day and Fish Day, in which they introduce visitors to old customs and delicious coastal cuisine. The association takes its name from the 16th meridian passing through the village – the exact location of which has been marked with a characteristic boulder.
